This survey forms part of the Municipal Oversight and Accountability Project: Polokwane Spatial Planning and Land Allocation, which seeks to address issues of spatial planning, land use and management within Polokwane Local Municipality. Through this initiative, we aim to utilise the relevant Section 79 committee to highlight the challenges faced by local residents and bridge the gap between the municipality and civil society.

The research component of the project aims to engage with local residents within the municipality who may have been affected by matters related to the spatial planning and land use portfolio. Our primary objective is to gather firsthand information about the effectiveness of the relevant Section 79 committee in performing its oversight functions, the experiences and perceptions of local residents in relation to the committee’s effectiveness and issues with spatial planning and land allocation, and any reported incidents of ineffective governance.
