Anelisa Nakani

I am deeply committed to community advocacy with a background in theology and human development. I hold an Honours degree in Systematic Theology with a focus on community development from the University of Pretoria, and I will pursue a master’s degree in Development Studies. Additionally, I volunteer at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), where my work allows me to continue my passion for driving social impact and building meaningful connections. I am particularly dedicated to uplifting underrepresented groups and have been actively involved in helping organisations where I integrate a faith-based approach to community service.

Fhulufelo Randobi

Fulufhelo Precious Randobi is a dedicated and dynamic professional with a profound commitment to advancing public affairs and driving meaningful change. She holds an Honours degree in Public Affairs (Administration of the State) and an Advanced Diploma in Local Government from Tshwane University of Technology. Currently, she is pursuing her master’s degree in Public Affairs, focusing her research on public policy, governance, and gender diversity. As a 2024 alumna of the Emerging Leaders in the Public Services (ELIPS) programme, Fulufhelo has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a strong dedication to public service through her involvement with the Department of Public Service and Administration. Her academic rigour is further exemplified by her ongoing efforts to publish research papers, reflecting her commitment to thought leadership and scholarship. She is deeply involved in various youth development initiatives, actively fostering growth and empowerment among young people. Her proactive leadership style is characterised by her readiness to take on responsibilities, her innovative approach, and her ability to collaborate effectively. She is a driven, success-oriented individual who is always eager to learn and contribute to transformative change within communities. Her overarching goal is to enhance accountability and self-sufficiency across South African society. Kanyisa Booi

Kanyisa Booi is a communications strategist and health communicator with extensive experience in advocacy, content development, and stakeholder engagement. As the founding editor of Eve’s Apple The Mag, Kanyisa has championed initiatives that amplify marginalised voices, particularly in feminist sexual health and gender advocacy. Her expertise in strategic communication has led to the creation of impactful campaigns that resonate across digital platforms and grassroots movements. Throughout her career, Kanyisa has held pivotal roles that highlight her proficiency in project management and communications. As a former campaign manager for Ipas SA & Activate Change Drivers, she spearheaded rights-based campaigns centred on adolescent girls and women, overseeing in-community staff and coordinating mass media outreach. Her work with organisations like Aviro Health and Avert underscores her ability to craft compelling content and execute large-scale communication strategies that drive change. Recognised as one of the 2014 Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans and a 2021 Mail & Guardian Woman of Power, Kanyisa’s contributions to social justice and public health advocacy are widely acknowledged.

Khutso Kgapane

Mr Khutso Kgapane is a young and experienced government official who has served in the ranks of City of Tshwane Municipality since 2017. He started as a revenue agent in the property evaluation department. He served in this position for 6 years while ensuring that the municipality does not fail on matter of finances. In this role, he was tested and tasked with more challenging responsibilities. Mr Kgapane completed a diploma in Management Assistance, and a higher certificate in Accounting Science. As part of grooming for his financial career, Kgapane completed NQF Level 6 of Municipal Finance Management Act at University of Pretoria 2024. In 2022 he moved to community and social development in the group strategic interest division as youth officer. He is responsible for ensuring young people are treated fairly and with respect and dignity.

Lerato Maloka

Lerato Maloka is a dedicated advocate for youth empowerment, currently serving as the departmental head of youth empowerment and mentorship at the Siyakha Youth Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to uplifting young people. Residing in Mamelodi, Lerato is deeply rooted in her local environment and driven by a strong commitment to social justice. Lerato holds a postgraduate diploma in Water Science and Technology from the Tshwane University of Technology, reflecting her passion for environmental sustainability. Her academic background, combined with her on-the-ground experience, positions her as a crucial voice in advocating for youth inclusion in policymaking, particularly in areas related to climate justice and quality education. With a focus on creating opportunities for young people to be actively involved in shaping their future, Lerato works tirelessly to ensure that the voices of the youth are heard and considered in decisions that affect their lives. Her work is characterised by a commitment to empowering the next generation to lead with knowledge, resilience, and a sense of responsibility towards both their communities and the planet.

Lethabo Rapudi

I am a 24-year-old public speaker and social justice activist, currently pursuing my Master of Laws (LLM) degree at the University of Johannesburg, having obtained my Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Limpopo. I serve as the National Deputy President of the South African Women’s Lawyers Association student chapter(Sawlasc), having previously served as the Branch Chairperson at the University of Limpopo. Sawlasc is an organisation that aims to empower female law students across the country. Additionally, I served as a mentor under the Centre for Academic Excellence during my undergraduate studies. I am passionate about social justice and women’s empowerment, and believe that true leadership starts from within, requiring one to lead oneself effectively before leading others.

Martha Lesedi Rakgole

Martha Lesedi Rakgole is a 27 year old passionate community and education enthusiast currently serving and enhancing her skills at Dipeu Tsa Tshwane as an educational programmes leader in Atteridgeville, Pretoria. She graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Management and International Relations and has gone on to receive a certificate in researcher training and a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Level 5 Diploma. Her love and appreciation for education and children has led her to the youth-centred organisation aimed at uplifting current and future generations to heights that seemed unattainable. The former 60Decibels research assistant is currently an editor and works with learners of all grades in proofreading and editing academic papers and assignments. She has plans of getting her Bachelor of Education in the Foundation Phase and aims to provide safe, positive, and fun learning spaces for all children no matter the type of environment they grow up in.

Modiegi Nyathi

I am Modiegi Nyathi, 18 years young and fired up for change! As a passionate advocate for social change, community empowerment and women empowerment, I’ve been involved in various initiatives that promote civic engagement, education and youth development. As an activist and Womandla 2024 nominee, I believe in the power of collective action and collaborative leadership. I am excited to join this training session and share my expertise, insights and ideas for driving social change and fostering a more just and equitable society.

Nokwazi Mthombeni

My name is Nokwazi Mthombeni from the University of Pretoria. I obtained my first degree in Theology and Religion and am currently pursuing a degree in education because I am passionate about teaching and aspire to make a positive impact in the lives of children. Throughout my academic journey, I have gained valuable experience working at the campus Career Services office, where I developed strong communication and organisational skills. Additionally, my role as an administrative assistant at FPT Properties allowed me to enhance my computer and management skills. These experiences have equipped me with a well-rounded skills set that I bring to my teaching career. Looking ahead, I am excited to pursue an Honours degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design and Development next year, as I continue to strive toward my goal of fostering change and making a difference in the educational field.

Sinnah Makgoba

Sinnah Makgoba is a visionary and accomplished graduate with a passion for driving transformative change through the advancement of noble ideas. Holding an advanced diploma in Public Affairs and an Honours degree in Public Affairs (Administration of the State) from Tshwane University of Technology, she intends to further her academic pursuits by completing her master’s degree. She is an alumna of the prestigious Emerging Leaders in the Public Service (ELIPS) programme of the Department of Public Service and Administration. Sinnah has established herself as a dynamic and influential voice in the field of public administration. With a strong research background, Sinnah has published in esteemed, accredited journals, her research interests are governance and democracy, international relations, and related fields. Her ultimate goal is to become a renowned researcher, leveraging her expertise to make a profound impact in the public service. Driven by a passion for learning and a desire to make a meaningful difference, Sinnah is committed to advancing knowledge and promoting positive change, particularly in municipal spheres. Through her research and scholarly pursuits, she strives to inspire and empower others, leaving a lasting impact on her community.

Stuart Mbanyele

Stuart is a research and policy analyst. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the University of Pretoria. Previously, he was a researcher in the governance delivery and impact programme at Good Governance Africa. Before joining Good Governance Africa, he was a junior research fellow with the Centre for Law and Society at the University of Cape Town. He also worked as a research consultant at the Institute for Security Studies.

Thabo Mofokeng

Thabo Mofokeng is an active, professional peer educator (disciplinary officer) in Pretoria, South Africa who always endeavours to tell a personal narrative through art, workshops and training. Leaving powerful impressions through numerous solo and collaborative projects, Thabo has a reputation in the industry, and he is self-driven, motivated and trustworthy, always challenging all sorts of unreliable acts by laws and rules abided.

Thapelo Moatshe

Thapelo Moatshe is a young and ambitious individual born in Rustenburg, South Africa in 2003. He began his educational journey in 2009, starting primary school, and later transitioned to secondary school in 2017. Although he faced a setback in 2019, failing his grade 10 and repeating it, Thapelo persevered and moved to Mamelodi in search of new opportunities. In Mamelodi, Thapelo became involved with the Stanza Bopape Development Centre where he volunteered as an assistant facilitator for 10 months. This experience sparked his passion for community development and led him to join Youth Dialogue Inde Media as a social media manager in May. He was promoted to this position in June 2024 and has been excelling in his role since. Thapelo’s versatility and strong work ethic have allowed him to take on multiple roles. He is also a part of GAP Connect, an NGO, where he works in the finance and fundraising department. His ability to balance multiple responsibilities has enabled him to gain valuable experience while pursuing his education. In addition to his professional endeavours, Thapelo is studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology and Art History at the University of South Africa. His academic pursuits are a testament to his dedication to personal growth and development. Through his various roles and experiences, Thapelo is building a strong foundation for his future. He is committed to making a positive impact in his community and is well on his way to achieving his goals.

Themba Monyoko

My name is Themba Monyoko-Chauke, I am a 30-year-old creative and community developer from Mamelodi with a strong foundation in interactive media and media production. My journey has been driven by a deep passion for leadership and a commitment to fostering positive change within my community. Through various initiatives I have dedicated myself to youth empowerment, believing that young people hold the potential to shape the future. Environmental care is another area close to my heart; I strive to promote sustainable practices that will benefit both the planet and the people in it. My work is also rooted in the belief that self-sustainability through entrepreneurship is key to creating lasting change. By encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and providing the tools and support needed, I aim to help individuals in my community build resilient, thriving futures. My role as a creative allows me to approach these challenges with innovative solutions, while my background in media ensures that these messages reach a wider audience. Through collaboration and a shared vision, I am dedicated to making Mamelodi, and the world beyond, a better place for all.

Tshegofatso Mogale

My name is Tshegofatso Mogale, and I am 24 years old. I reside in Mamelodi, one of Tshwane’s oldest townships. As a dedicated candidate legal practitioner, I am passionate about advocating for justice and equality in my field of work but most importantly in my community. Beyond my academic pursuits, I am an active and engaged member of a local community forum called “Bahlali Ba Ward 18”, a small community forum where we assist families and the community whenever there are issues between the community and the municipality. We aim to educate members of the community on how to solve issues that affect them as well as how to liaise with the municipality through counsellors. I work collaboratively with others to identify and challenge injustices, drive positive change, and promote human rights. Through my studies and community involvement, I aim to develop the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to become an effective and empathetic legal professional, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around me.

Thabisile Miya

Thabisile Miya is passionate about using digital media for advocacy. A graduate of the amandla.mobi campaigner fellowship and the 2020 ASRI Future Leaders cohort, she has worked in the NGO sector for five years, including her role as an online campaigns strategist at the Democracy Development Programme. With an Honours degree in Media Studies, Thabisile is committed to exploring the intersections of media and gender to deepen her understanding of the systemic inequalities faced by Black women from low-income backgrounds. She currently works as a campaign coordinator at amandla.mobi.

Kamogelo Modise

My name is Kamogelo Modise, a 26-year-old African man born at Temba Hospital, now known as Jubilee Hospital, near Hammanskraal. I was raised in Rustenburg, Northwest. Professionally, I work as an occupational therapist with the Gauteng Department of Health in a community-based clinic’s psychiatric team. Previously, I worked in the mining sector, focusing on fitness-to-mine programmes for a private practice associated with Sasol Mine in Mpumalanga, where I was involved in clinical work, monitoring and evaluating clients’ medical and functional progress, as well as community mobilisation efforts. I am completing my final module in a postgraduate diploma in management with a specialisation in monitoring and evaluation at the University of the Witwatersrand. Before this, I earned a four-year bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. Personally, I adhere to a value-based leadership framework, which aligns with using strategic processes to enhance service delivery effectiveness and efficiency. Given my achievements, I am on a trajectory towards a leadership role, potentially as the director general of the programme. For this training, I aim to deepen my understanding of monitoring and evaluation strategies and public policy frameworks within a municipal context.
