Tokelo Bhukula
I hold a Diploma in Business Management with over two years of administrative experience, during which time I developed strong skills in organisation, communication, and problem-solving. My professional interests lie in public policy, socio-economic development, and the intersection of business and community empowerment. I am committed to advancing inclusive policies that address youth unemployment, skills development, and sustainable livelihoods, particularly in under-resourced communities. I bring a practical understanding of administration and technology, combined with a vision for using these tools to support equitable development. Through ASRI’s O&A programme I wish to strengthen my leadership capacity, deepen my policy analysis skills, and contribute to shaping initiatives that promote social justice and economic transformation in South Africa.

Skhumbuzo Calvert
I am Skhumbuzo Calvert, a business-oriented leader and entrepreneur from Koffiefontein in the Free State, passionate about youth empowerment and community development. My entrepreneurial journey began in high school with a photography business and later a clothing brand, blending creativity with business acumen. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Social Science in Government, Business and Ethics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where I achieved an 81% average in Business Management. I have served as a residence anchor leading over 400 students and as Deputy Secretary of the SA BRICS Youth Association (UKZN Chapter), promoting innovation and global awareness. With strong skills in leadership, problem-solving, and communication, I advocate for ethical, youth-led solutions to community challenges. My vision is to build socially responsible businesses and platforms that empower young people to create sustainable change.

Junior Dala
My name is Junior Dala, a 25-year-old man in possession of a BA degree in Governance and Political Transformation. I reside in the Mangaung Metro Municipality, where I have developed a strong interest in governance, accountability, and the improvement of service delivery. I am keen to participate in the Oversight Training Programme because it will sharpen my policy application skills and enhance my strategic thinking in addressing the daily challenges faced by communities in the metro. I see this programme as an important opportunity to deepen my understanding of oversight and accountability, equipping me to contribute towards preventing maladministration and strengthening transparent governance.

Tlhokomelang Gaobuse
I am a final year student at the University of the Free State, studying Bachelor of Arts in Governance and Political Transformation, majoring in Political Science with Public Administration and Management. I am passionate about social justice and social development. I have also attended several webinars that focused on education and empowerment of youth in South Africa, and on mismanagement and corruption in the public sector. Subsequently, I hope to build a career that allows me to make a meaningful impact in society. I believe in continuous learning and growth, and I am eager to connect with opportunities that will help me develop as a young leader while serving the needs of my community.

Andile Khosa
My name is Andile, and I am a Bachelor of Administration student at the University of the Free State. I have a strong interest in governance, accountability, and the role of public institutions in improving people’s lives. My studies have equipped me with a growing understanding of public administration, policy, and leadership, and I am eager to apply this knowledge in practical contexts. I believe that transparent and accountable governance is essential for sustainable development and effective service delivery, especially at municipal level where citizens’ needs are most immediate. Although I do not yet have professional experience, I am deeply motivated to learn, grow, and contribute to initiatives that strengthen oversight and ethical leadership. Participating in the ASRI Municipal Oversight and Accountability Programme will allow me to build the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to play an active role in promoting responsible governance and empowering communities.

Bongani Patric Luphuwani
I am Bongani Luphuwane, and I hold an N6 in Human Resources Management, which has equipped me with strong skills in administration, people management, and organisational development. I currently serve as an E-cadre at Moso Primary, where I play a key role in supporting the school’s operational and administrative processes, ensuring that staff and learners have the support they need to thrive. Beyond my professional work, I am deeply passionate about financial markets. I enjoy exploring investment opportunities, understanding market trends, and expanding my knowledge of economic systems. This passion for finance complements my entrepreneurial spirit, as I am also the co-owner of King-P Printers, a business I co-manage to deliver high-quality printing solutions to our clients. Running a business has taught me resilience, innovation, and the importance of providing excellent service to the community. Since 2014, I have been actively involved in community service and civic engagement. I have served in structures such as the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and various NGOs, contributing to initiatives that promote safety, development, and social cohesion. My involvement in these structures has strengthened my commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability, and I am passionate about creating meaningful change at both local and organisational levels. I believe in bridging professional expertise, entrepreneurship, and community involvement to make a lasting positive impact. Whether in the workplace, in business, or through civic engagement, I strive to uphold integrity, foster collaboration, and support initiatives that empower people and strengthen communities.

Fhumulani Maboho
My name is Fhumulani Maboho. I lecture Public Governance at the University of the Free State and I completed my Master’s research on the policy process in South Africa and its effectiveness in addressing unemployment. I am currently planning on pursuing my PhD in governance and political transformation. Governance as a discipline is still nuanced and exposure to this programme will be informative, given the emphasis is on “building a just and prosperous society”. Governance requires a collaborative approach in the decision-making process, especially when addressing issues and challenges hindering society from prospering by including civil society, private sector, relevant stakeholders (NGOs and trade unions), local, provincial, and national government inputs within this process. Corruption and maladministration have been at the core of most discussions, and this opportunity could give me the tools I need to ensure that I’m well versed in the topic.

Refiloe Moroka
I am a marketing professional, community advocate, and entrepreneur whose career bridges the private and public sectors. My early work in marketing and brand strategy in the private sector sharpened my problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills. Transitioning to the public sector, I gained compliance and governance expertise while witnessing firsthand the socio-economic challenges facing vulnerable communities while working at the Legislature. Inspired to act, I joined a community foundation, leading some impactful initiatives. Today, I continue to leverage my marketing acumen, public service insight, political activism and entrepreneurial drive to build opportunities that empower communities and foster sustainable change.

Tokollo Mokgatlhe
Tokollo Mokgatlhe is a dynamic professional with a strong academic foundation and a commitment to social impact. They hold a Higher Certificate in System Development (NQF Level 5) and have earned two skills certificates: one as an Office Application Specialist and another in Project Management through the Excelerate programme. With a passion for applying their knowledge to real-world challenges, Tokollo is dedicated to developing sustainable solutions that can positively impact communities. Their journey reflects a proactive and goal-oriented approach, making them a valuable asset for any initiative focused on driving efficiency and creating meaningful change. They are eager to contribute their skills in a collaborative environment to advance social and economic development.

Rebaone Mogoera
My name is Rebaone Matsie Tholoana Mogoera, born and raised in Welkom in the Free State. At Riebeeckstad High School I served on the Student Representative Council and as a student representative on the School Governing Body, where my interest in leadership and governance began. I went on to earn a BA and BA Honours in Political and International Studies at Rhodes University, and I am currently completing a Master’s in Politics at the University of South Africa. While I do not yet have formal professional experience, my academic journey has been extensive and has allowed me to develop critical skills. In 2025 I participated in the South African BRICS Youth Association Summer School and the Tomorrow’s Africa Alliance Policy Fellowship, which broadened my policy and leadership exposure. I am committed to applying my knowledge and experience to municipal oversight and strengthening accountability in communities like my hometown.

Tshireletso Mokheseng
Mokheseng Tshireletso is the Founder and CEO of EcoFuel Innovations (Pty) Ltd, a green energy startup based in Botshabelo in the Free State. Driven by a passion for sustainability and social impact, he is leading the establishment of a waste-to-energy facility that converts plastic waste into diesel and biodiesel. His vision is to address South Africa’s twin challenges of plastic pollution and energy insecurity while creating economic opportunities in underdeveloped communities. With a strong commitment to innovation and inclusive growth, Mokheseng is positioning EcoFuel Innovations to expand into Bloemfontein and Thaba Nchu, empowering township communities through job creation, training, and green enterprise development. Despite not having formal technical qualifications, he has embraced his role as a visionary leader and strategist, drawing on resilience, entrepreneurial drive, and collaboration to build a company that contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable South Africa.

Ntando Moloi
Ntando was born and raised in Harrismith. Ntando developed his sense of leadership by participating in various youth and student entrepreneur programmes. In these initiatives he showed visionary leadership and a knack for rallying his peers to believe in the power they hold to make a change in their communities. He took on a pivotal role as the head of Start-Ups in the Hult Prize Foundation’s On-Campus program at the University of the Free State, working closely with the campus director. In its inaugural year, Ntando played a key part in recruiting and mentoring participants. In 2025 he ventured into student politics as a member of DASO at the University of the Free State. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the on-campus DA Youth chairperson. He is in his final year of study, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, majoring in Political Science and Psychology.

Julia Motaung
I am a motivated individual with a strong passion for community development, good governance, and public accountability. My background has equipped me with skills in leadership, problem solving, and communication, which I aim to apply in contributing to effective municipal service delivery. I believe municipalities play a crucial role in improving the daily lives of citizens, and I want to be part of ensuring that governance structures are transparent, accountable, and responsive to community needs. Joining the Municipal Oversight and Accountability training will enhance my knowledge of local government systems, strengthen my ability to monitor and evaluate municipal performance, and equip me with practical tools to promote ethical leadership. I am eager to learn from experts, share ideas with peers, and develop the competencies needed to hold municipalities accountable while advancing a culture of service excellence and integrity.

Rethabile Pheko
I’m a 29-year-old graduate with an Advanced Diploma in Applied Management who is also a petrol attendant. I’m became an activist because of the conditions at work and also looking at how our communities are no longer the same when we were growing up. I’m a private consultant who helps youth with developing key points in their ideas and helping them on how to source funding as we’re experiencing high unemployment in our fellow communities.

Hanns Rathobei
Hanns Rathobei is a driven education activist and emerging scholar passionate about reshaping how young people experience learning in South Africa. His journey began through tutoring Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, where he discovered that education is not just about passing exams but about unlocking potential and creating pathways for change. Hanns believes that every learner deserves access to quality education that uplifts both mind and community. His activism focuses on bridging inequality through mentorship, youth development, and innovation in education spaces. He has engaged in entrepreneurship and leadership programmes that fuel his commitment to building sustainable, youth led solutions to social challenges. Guided by a deep sense of purpose, Hanns envisions contributing to education reform and public policy that make learning transformative, inclusive, and empowering for future generations.

Dimpho Sehau
I am a 26 year old woman from Bloemfontein. I am a senior student at the Central University of Technology in the Free State, studying for Diploma in Public Management. I am also planning on pursuing for Bachelor of Construction in health and safety in 2026. I started my higher education journey in 2018 at the University of Free State and have obtained a Higher Certificate in Humanities for Political Sciences and Sociology. I am an individual who believes in learning and advancing my knowledge, I am open-minded and like to challenge myself to better my skills every chance I get. My interests are being in a field of transport and logistics, administering. However, I am also interested in our municipality ‘s management of public service, infrastructure, and procurement.

Bontle Blessing Seleka
I am a 22-year-old from Pretoria, currently completing her final year in Social Work at the University of the Free State. Growing up, I developed a deep sense of compassion and dedication to helping others, which inspired me to pursue a career in social work. During my studies, I have gained experience in areas such as community development, child protection, and trauma-informed care, strengthening my commitment to serving those in need. I’m driven by the belief that every person deserves dignity, care, and opportunity, and I hope to use my skills to create positive change within my community and beyond. Looking to the future, I envision myself working with diverse populations, advocating for vulnerable groups, and contributing to sustainable social development initiatives in South Africa.

Tshepang Thinane
My name is Tshepang Thinane and I was born in Bloemfontein. As a dedicated and passionate public management graduate from the Central University Of Technology, I possess a strong foundation in policy analysis, public administration, and governance. With a diploma in public management, I have developed expertise in leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement. Throughout my academic journey, I have gained a deep understanding of the complexities of public policy and the importance of effective governance in driving positive change. My studies have equipped me with the skills to analyse complex problems, develop innovative solutions, and implement policies that benefit the community. I am currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Public Management, I aim to enhance my skills and knowledge in public sector management, policy development, and leadership. I am committed to staying up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in public management, and I am excited to apply my knowledge and skills in real-world settings. My goal is to drive positive change and development in my community through impactful initiatives and collaborative leadership. Tlotliso Tshabalala
I am Tlotliso Tshabalala, an entrepreneur passionate about building sustainable businesses and driving community impact. I founded Paradise Retreat, a beauty spa dedicated to premium hair, nail, and massage services, and Mavuso Corporate Solutions, a consulting firm that helps businesses achieve compliance, financial strategy, and enterprise growth. I have launched and supported several ventures, with a strong focus on grooming startups for long-term success. Beyond business, I am actively involved in community initiatives, including work with the MT Foundation, an organisation committed to social development, education, and youth empowerment across South Africa. Through this collaboration, I support projects that provide skills, mentorship, and opportunities for young people and women. My vision is to merge business excellence with social change, creating pathways that uplift both entrepreneurs and communities.

Siphe Zenani
Siphe Zenani is a commercial thinker and business strategist with interests in strategic communications, skills development and training, and property management and development. He is also an experienced servant leader who currently serves in the following roles: Deputy Chairperson – National Association for Student Accommodation Transformation (NASAT); Deputy Chairperson – Free State Student Accommodation Providers Forum (FSSAPF); and Chairperson – Local Organising Committee of the Centre City Titaniums Athletics Club (CCTAC). Previously, he served as the Free State provincial chairperson of the Black Managment Forum (BMF) Young Professionals until 2023. He spent seven years of his early career in higher education, where he was exposed to academic administration, student development, and fundraising and student funding.

George Zita
George Zita is a dynamic and thoughtful Governance and Political Transformation second year student at the University of the Free State. I am driven by a passion for African history, municipal governance, and intercultural communication. Born to Mozambican parents and raised in South Africa, I bring a rich multicultural perspective to academic and civic engagements. I am also currently pursuing studies in communication and cultural analysis, with a strong focus on identity development and media ethics. I am known for my analytical thinking, structured approach to problem-solving, and deep commitment to evidence-based understanding. My perspective work bridges theory and practice—whether navigating bureaucratic systems, exploring Afrocentric frameworks, or engaging in policy debates around service delivery and municipal reform. I have a particular interest in global economics and the role of youth in shaping inclusive governance.
